5 reasons to attend the 3rd Philippine Real Estate Festival (2009)

I believe that all aspiring real estate investors should attend the 3rd Philippine Real Estate Festival (2009) which will be held on July 23-25, 2009 at the World Trade Center, Roxas Blvd. corner Buendia Street, Pasay City, Philippines. I learned a lot each time I attended the Philippine Real Estate Festival during the past two years and I’m quite sure I’ll be learning much more this year.

For those of you who may still be thinking of whether to attend or not, here are my top 5 reasons to attend the Philippine Real Estate Festival and I hope it’s more than enough to convince you to attend.

1. You can build ย your network.

The Philippine Real Estate Festival is a venue for real estate companies, finance institutions, suppliers, contractors, and professionals from all over the country to converge in one place. This is a perfect opportunity for any real estate investor to build his network! Make sure to visit the booths of all participating banks that offer foreclosed property listings and leave your calling cardsย  or register so that they can include you in their mailing lists. Also visit the booths ofย  contractors, suppliers, or anyone who offers services that real estate investors would need. Here’s a tip: bring lots of calling cards.

2.ย  You can increase your knowledge on real estate investing.

The Philippine Real Estate Festival will be having a Housing & Real Estate Investment Forum which aims to educate participants on a wide array of topics. The topics that interest me as a real estate investor and the respective schedules of the talks are as follows:

  • Investment outlook in the Philippines

2:15 โ€“ 3:00 pm, Thursday, July 23, 2009

Speaker : Sec. Margarito B. Teves of the Dept. of Finance

  • Emerging concepts & approaches to real estate investment for diverse markets in the Philippines

3:00 โ€“ 3:45 pm, Thursday, July 23, 2009

Speaker : Mr. Antonino Aquino, President of Ayala Land

  • Land title fraud detection

10:30 โ€“ 11:00 am, Friday, July 24, 2009

Speaker: Dr. Jaime Cura, President of CREBA Land, Inc.

  • Housing loan procurement

11:00 – 11:30 am,Friday, July 24, 2009

Speaker: Mr. Jaime Fabiana, CEO of the Home Development Mutual Fund

  • Recent development in real estate taxes

11:30 โ€“ 12 Noon, Friday, July 24, 2009

Speaker: Atty. Sixto Esquivias, Commissioner of the Bureau of Internal Revenue

  • Philippine investment incentives & dis-incentives

1:00 โ€“ 3:00pm, Friday, July 24, 2009, Panel discussion

*-Please refer to the 3-day program below for the complete program schedules.

3. You can attend a public auction of foreclosed properties.

On the third and last day of the event, there will be a public auction of foreclosed properties. If you havenโ€™t been to an auction before, this is your chance to observe without the need to bring show money to register. You can refer to my post about the Subastahan sa Festival for more details about the auction. As I have mentioned before, I was a bidder in last yearโ€™s auction and won. Unfortunately, I ended up NOT buying that property due to an issue with the mother title.

4. You can have a chance to win a house and lot!

Of course it wouldnโ€™t hurt to have a chance to win attractive prizes which will be raffled off on an hourly basis during the 3-day festival! Who among you would not like to win a house and lot, lot only, appliances, resort destination, gift checks and other attractive products?

5. The Philippine Real Estate Festival is free of charge and open to all.

This also applies to all the seminars that are to be held throughout the 3 day event. Need I say more?!

  4. Ben the Investor

    Hi Jay,

Was able to attend to July 23 – first day. I was more interested on the forums on the PREF. It was a learning experience from me at the same time optimistic on the outlook of our economic perspective especially on the real estate and property sector. Although we do not have figure as of 2009. It was estimated that 4.7% increase in the prices of real estate back in 2008 but still real estate sector remained resilient in terms of this. However didn’t go up as expected but remained flat.

Oh by way, I am moving my blog to Wordpress.com from my current hosting. Here is my link: http://pinoymoneyvantage.wordpress.com

    1. Hi Ben, thanks for the figures and the recap on the forums you attended. Personally I was able to attend the talks in day 2 about detecting fake land titles, about the Pag-IBIG updates, updates on real estate taxation, and the lively forums in the afternoon which I had to cut short as I had to pickup my son from school. ๐Ÿ™‚

Congratulations on your successful move to wordpress.com!

The activity will surely assist GFIs like PhilEXIM in our Asset Mgt. Procedures, WE will surely attend this activity, thanks

    1. Hi Maru, you’re welcome! You mentioned about your asset mgt. procedures and this made me curious, may I ask the nature of business of PhilEXIM?

  7. Hi Jay. Thank you for sharing your insights and i am hoping to become a real estate broker soonest. I just don’t know where to start. Can you send me some information about on how to become one.

    More Power to you Jay

    Jun

    1. Hi Jun, you’re welcome and thank you also for dropping by! Unfortunately, the real estate broker licensure exams have been postponed as I have mentioned in my post about the RESA LAW. I guess we will all have to wait for the implementing rules and regulations of the new law to comeout so that we’ll know exactly the new requirements in order to become a licensed real estate broker.

  8. Hello Jay,

You’re doing a great job and leaving a great legacy behind. It’s people like you that makes this world a better place sharing your knowledge and insights. I am a fellow real estate broker like you having passed the last (hope there will be more)broker exams last May 31, 2009 and I must say that I am lucky to grab that opportunity . Thank you for all your efforts to educate our countrymen about real estate as a means to achieve financial freedom. And Yes, I have read the three books published by Larry Gamboa, the Think Rich Pinoy series, and must truly say that its an eye opener about the fundamentals of real estate investing and importantly, the mindset to achieve financial freedom. God bless you and looking forward to meet you in the nearest future. I’d like to leave this comment with a quote from Martin Luther King:

Take the first step in faith. You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.
–Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Civil Rights Leader

    Thanks
    Dominic (REBL # 20643)

    1. Hello Dominic, thank you for the kind words! I’m glad to see a fellow real estate broker who is also into real estate investing and I would also like to meet you soon. That quote from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is one of my favorite quotes from “The Secret”. Thanks!

  9. Hi Jay,

glad i found your website, after reading the think rich pinoy book of larry gamboa i suddenly become very interested in real estate, your website is very helpful, it answers some of the questions i have in mind after reading TRP book, also the 5 reasons you lists here convince me to attend the 3rd Philippine Real Estate Festival (2009) nothing to loose but lot of knowledge to gain. though i’m a little nervous/scared realestate is new to me, going out of my comfort zone is a little scary.

    1. Hi Joan, I’m also glad that you found my blog, thanks! By the way, you mentioned the blog was able to answer some of your questions. If you don’t mind, may I ask what remaining questions you may have so that I can also try to answer either here or through a post? Regarding the Philippine Real Estate Festival, I will definitely attend the talk about detecting fake land titles. Yes, get out of your comfort zone, I assure you it’s just what we all need!
